"A sustanable future in healthcarE"

We are a green catalyst that is focused on developing leaders that prioritize sustanibilty in healthcare

ABOUT US

In addition to our focus on healthcare sustainability, our members have recognized the profound impact of educational leadership in shaping the future. We have established a mentorship pipeline that connects under-resourced high school students in the Inland Empire with college students. This program aims to provide guidance, support, and inspiration, helping these high school students navigate their educational journeys and achieve their academic and career goals.

Our Story

Founded in 2018 in their hometown of Upland CA, TALLPHA emerged from the collaborative vision of Tony Chang and Archie Green Jr. They were driven by their observations of significant waste—both in healthcare settings and policy. Tony, during his volunteer work at a hospital, noted the massive amounts of waste generated by healthcare practices. Meanwhile, Archie recognized similar inefficiencies and believed there was a better way to manage resources. Motivated by these insights, TALLPHA was established while they were still in high school. The organization focuses on raising awareness about environmental issues, particularly those related to healthcare and policy. One key initiative addresses the problem of surplus medical equipment nearing its expiration date. Instead of allowing these supplies to go to waste, TALLPHA works to retool and repurpose them or donate them to organizations that can immediately use them in humanitarian crises. This approach not only minimizes waste but also maximizes the impact of these valuable resources.

Our Mission- Sustainability

Why Sustainability?

At TALLPHA, we are committed to addressing these challenges by transforming them into opportunities for positive change. Our mission is to deeply understand these issues and drive actionable solutions for a sustainable future. We explore various avenues for sustainability in healthcare, including the development of reusable medical gowns, publishing comprehensive reviews on the impact of environmental sustainability within healthcare, educating medical professionals on the connection between climate change and human health, and advocating for a shift in perspective on the importance of sustainability in healthcare. Through these efforts, we aim to foster a more environmentally responsible and health-conscious healthcare system.

Healthcare

Healthcare is responsible for approximately 10% of all carbon emissions in the U.S., making it one of the leading contributors to CO2 pollution. It is crucial to implement green practices within the healthcare sector to create a more sustainable environment for both people and the planet. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the intersection of climate and human health, particularly through the increased risk of zoonotic disease spillovers. Additionally, the issues of microplastics and the sheer volume of waste generated by hospitals further exacerbate environmental damage.
